Noni, also known as Mengkudu or Morinda citrifolia, is type of fruit indigenous to polynesia, which has been used for centuries as a natural tonic to treat a wide variety of conditions, from infections and inflammations to digestive problems characterized by diarrhea or constipation. Noni is not a particularly pleasant tasting fruit, so perhaps the ancient medicine men of the polynesian islands assumed that it must be good for you. Noni leaves have also been used traditionally to treat wounds by applying the leaves topically as part of a dressing or poultice.

Noni juice sold as a health food supplement is usually sweetened and added to in order to mask its basically unpleasant taste and smell. It is available as a fresh juice as well as concentrated form, and also as extract in pills, capsules and powders. Nutritionists recommend consuming noni separately from food in order to maximize its absorption and beneficial effects.

Studies into the health benefits of noni have shown that this miracle juice has great promise as a treatment for a variety of conditions, including possibly cancer, and that it also has painkilling properties, as well as being able to stimulate immune system function. Doctors have recommended noni for a myriad of health problems, too many to list here, but including prominently chronic fatigue system, ulcers, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney diseases, malaria and menstrual disorders. Studies into many of these claims are at an early stage and these is currently a lack of solid evidence to recommend noni as a primary treatment for these conditions, though it is still prescribed as a supplemental medication.

Noni may also have some promise as a dietary supplement to help people lost weight, with indications that it may have helped obese patients to lose more weight as part of a dietary program than they otherwise would have done. This ties in with the belief of some doctors that noni juice is able to improve digestion.

Noni juice contains high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants are chemicals that our essential to human beings because they combat the potentially harmful effects of oxidant chemicals, also called free radicals, which are produced as a by-product of the release of energy from carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Free radicals, left unchecked, can travel through the human body and bind on to healthy tissue, then consuming it. Antioxidants prevent this by binding to the free radicals themselves so that they might be harmlessly expelled from the body. The antioxidants in noni juice are known to be particularly effective at preventing the onset of, or at least slowing the onset of, arteriosclerosis.

Antioxidants are also effective at preventing some forms of cancer from developing, and noni juice shows particular potential in this regard because it also contains high levels of alkaloids and enzymes such as bromelain, which are known to weaken cancer cells, and phytochemicals that ‘diffuse’ tumors, slowing or even stopping their development completely.

Studies are not yet advanced enough to recommend noni juice as a treatment or preventative treatment for cancer, but these early results show a lot of promise in this regard.

Noni also contains a chemical called pro-Xeronine. Pro-Xeronine is converted to Xeronine in the body, which has been demonstrated in laboratory conditions to have strong anti-cancer properties, especially with regard to boosting the immune system’s response to potentially dangerous foreign cells, including cancer cells. Xeronine may also play a role in the protection of protein molecules and their transit throughout the body.

Advocates of noni juice claim additional benefits such as the ability to regular hormones, improve mood and maintain healthy bones and teeth. Many doctors also believe that maintaining an slightly alkaline body pH is conducive to good health, whereas a slightly acidic body pH is indicative of poor health. Noni juice helps maintain an alkaline environment, which may be optimal for cellular function and all of the chemical reactions that take place in the human body.

Noni is 100% natural, fresh, nutrient-rich fruit, and a healthy addition to anybody’s diet. As we have described, it may also play a significant role in the prevention of certain serious diseases, and can also be used as a painkiller and aid to digestion.

A minority of people may be allergic to noni juice. If you do experience a negative reaction to noni, you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.
